This site is dedicated to the memory and life’s work of commercial photographer Howard “Howie” Gibson.
Howie began his career in Bellerose N.Y. on Long Island in the 30’s. In 1947 he and his wife Florence along with their young son Robert moved to Germantown N.Y. where their son Donald was born a year later.
Howie’s career as a photographer in the Hudson Valley of upstate New York, primarily in Columbia and Dutchess Counties, from 1947 until his passing in 1978, included all facets of community life. I purchased the collection from his estate in 1978 with the goal of maintaining his life’s work locally.
As pictures are continually added to this web site I do so in collections which represent Howie’s varied subject matter over his 40+ year career. My sincere hope is that you enjoy this historical walk through mid-century rural upstate New York as much as I’ve enjoyed and continue to enjoy weighing through his very sizable film library.
Enjoy!
